He was stopped by Kyknos, the son of the war god, Ares, who demanded that Hercules fight him. He journeyed through Libya, Egypt, Arabia, and Asia, having adventures along the way. Hercules' first problem was that he didn't know where the garden was. Photograph courtesy of the Trustees of the British Museum, London London E 224, Attic red figure hydria, ca. Here the apples are on a tree, and the dragon Ladon looks more like a single-headed serpent. These apples were kept in a garden at the northern edge of the world, and they were guarded not only by a hundred-headed dragon, named Ladon, but also by the Hesperides, nymphs who were daughters of Atlas, the titan who held the sky and the earth upon his shoulders. Hera, who didn't want to see Hercules succeed, would never permit him to steal one of her prize possessions, would she? Hera had given these apples to Zeus as a wedding gift, so surely this task was impossible. Eurystheus demanded two more labors from the hero, since he did not count the hydra or the Augean stables as properly done.Įurystheus commanded Hercules to bring him golden apples which belonged to Zeus, king of the gods. Poor Hercules! After eight years and one month, after performing ten superhuman labors, he was still not off the hook. Did he leave Zafaria to set up that exchange program? Or did he do that afterwards? SO MANY QUESTIONS! I’d love for Baxby to be involved in more quests so we can learn more about him.Hercules' Eleventh Labor: the Apples of the Hesperides Why did Baxby decide to leave Zafaria? Why is he so passionate about keeping other worlds safe? All we currently know about him is that he helped set up a Wizard City exchange program with Zafaria, and his cousin hasn’t seen him in a long time. Since that time, it’s said that Baxby keeps dangerous creatures out of the worlds he protects. This was confirmed by Professor Greyrose on the Wizard101 Message Boards. However, not many wizards completed his quests and they were taken out of the game. Rumor has it that this Aussie zebra had a fairly significant role in Wizard101 beta. It looks like an apple tree – with golden apples?! Perhaps we’ll get a high level dungeon there someday? I personally would love to further explore this theory and see what’s behind that door! 2. Both reside in the Garden of Hesperides … and take a look at that picture on the door (above). Ladon never slept, and acted as an extra safeguard for the golden apples.Ĭould the 2 headed dragon in Aquila be Wizard101’s Ladon? It’s possible. Distrusting the Hesperides with such power, Hera placed a hundred headed dragon named Ladon in the garden. These golden apples are very powerful and were believed to grant immortality. In Greek mythology, The Garden of Hesperides belongs to a goddess named Hera, and it contains a grove of apple trees that produce golden apples. Where does that door lead? Who is the dragon guarding it? These are questions that I’d love to know the answers to! Since Aquila is based on Greek mythology, I did some research to find out if a multiple headed dragon was mentioned anywhere. To this day, the door still doesn’t open. The 2 headed dragon in Aquila has been guarding a door since the area’s release. So, I entered deep thought and came up with 2 characters that I truly think we should learn more about.
Garden of hesperides w101 update#
However, the four dungeons update in 2014 solved that mystery! I mentioned Azteca during KI Live, but I’m really not sure if that’s possible with Azteca getting destroyed and all (those poor dinosaurs). Kat stumped me with this question while I was on the air, but now that I’ve had some time to think about it … I’d like to give you guys a well developed answer.įor the longest time, my answer to this question would have been Barkingham Palace. Hey guys! Sorry for not having any posts last week, I was super swamped with college work! Luckily, I’m back on track and look forward to many more posts over the summer! Today I’m revisiting a certain question Kat Wenske posed to me on last month’s KI Live – “What story or character from the spiral would you want to learn more about?”
